Modern European Manuscripts
The Department of Special Collections houses a number of bound and unbound manuscript items originating from continental Europe and the British Isles from approximately 1800 to the present. Principal areas of concentration include correspondence of various English writers and historians, many Catholic, from the 19th and early 20th centuries, several Irish-language miscellanies, and letters of Eric Gill, Hilary Pepler and other figures associated with the Guild of St. Joseph and St. Dominic. Important for the areas of Russian and Soviet history are the Polievktov-Nikoladze Family Papers.
Finding aids for these items are being revised and developed for eventual Web publication. At present, researchers interested in more information about our holdings in this area should email Rare Books & Special Collections.
More manuscript items in this category, especially as they relate to the history of Notre Dame and the activities of its professors and departments, may be found in the University Archives.
