Turner, Sharon (1768-1847). The History of the Anglo-Saxons, Comprising the History of England from the Earliest Period to the Norman Conquest. Fourth edition. 3 vols. London: Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, and Green, 1823.

Sharon Turner (1768-1847), historian, was possibly influenced by Thomas Percy's Reliques of Ancient English Poetry to choose Anglo-Saxon history as his major field of study (see Percy's translations of Icelandic poetry in this display). He researched and wrote the first edition of the History of the Anglo-Saxons between 1799 and 1805, and he was one of the first scholars to make use of the Anglo-Saxon historical manuscripts in the Cottonian collection at the British Museum. This copy, the fourth edition, is part of the personal collection of Professor Lewis Nicholson and is displayed through his courtesy.
