Alejo González Garaño. Iconografía de Rivadavia. Buenos Aires: Instituto Bonaerense de Numismática y Antigüedades, 1945.

Watercolor of Bernardino Rivadavia.

This caricature shows Bernardino Rivadavia peering at a mulatto who is writing "Death to the heretics" on a wall. Rivadavia is standing next to an official posting stating "Reform the church — Continue the march". Behind Rivadavia is the governor of the Buenos Aires province.

This federalist caricature sets out to show that the people strongly, if not violently, disagree with Rivadavia’s liberal reforms. In this case, his administration’s reforms of the church are under attack from the mulatto who calls the liberals 'heretics'.
