    Commentary:

Ricardo Güiraldes is one of the most significant Argentine writers of the first half of the twentieth century. His 1926 novel set among the gauchos, Don Segundo Sombra, remains one of the most important Argentine works of that period. His synthesis of literatura gauchesca, in this case the use of vernacular language, with modern European literary techniques set this book apart from others of its day. The 1926 edition shown here is one of thirty copies printed on special paper.
