Printed Ephemera

RBSC houses a number of topical collections consisting wholly or primarily of printed ephemera. Among the formats most frequently encountered in these collections are pamphlets, individual periodical issues or clipped articles, programs, broadsides and handbills, and book jackets. Materials are typically stored in folders and boxes, like archival collections, and are accessed through archival finding aids.

A key to RBSC's printed ephemera collections appears below, grouped by subject area. Among the most notable are collections relating to the American poet Robert Creeley (EPH 5005; EPH 5009) and the American writer and illustrator Edward Gorey (EPH 5004). Also significant is an accumulation of Catholic pamphlets that is among the largest of its kind (EPH 5024). In addition, the Joyce Sports Collection includes tens of thousands of programs, guides, yearbooks, and other printed ephemera; inventories of many of these items may be accessed from the sports subject page on this site.

For ephemeral formats in which image rather than text is paramount, see Broadsides, Prints & Posters.
