Estanislao López.
Manuscript Letter, May 12 1838.
Commentary:
Estanislao López, governor of Santa Fé, wrote to Juan Manuel de Rosas discussing the danger the Republic was in, specially regarding the possibility of an insurrection.
López (1786-1838), born in Santa Fé, rose through the military ranks before taking over the governorship of Santa Fé. He opposed Bernardino Rivadavia as president, supported Manuel Dorrego, and allied himself closely with Rosas to fight the Unitario forces in the region. He supported a federalist union but died before he could advance this vision.
