Commentary:
Rosas supporters typically portrayed him as a humble servant of the people, called upon to serve the interests of the nation. This biography describes how federalists dissatisfied with the Unitarian rule of Rivadavia approached Rosas to lead them. Rosas turned down the request, stating "I am not the judge of the first magistrate of the Republic, as long as the people do not revoke his powers, my responsibility is to obey him."
