The armorial used as the watermark background for this exhibit is taken from Lucas Fernández Piedrahita, Historia general de las conquistas del nuevo reyno de Granada (see the opening page), and presents the imperial arms of the Spanish kings between 1580 and 1666, during the reigns of Felipe II (1556-1598), Felipe III (1598-1621), Felipe IV (1621-1665), and Carlos II (1665-1700). The arms are surrounded by the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece, with the coronet of the heir to the throne, Prince of the Asturias, above.
