Pedro Ciruelo. Reprouacion de supersticiones. [Salamanca]: [Pedro de Castro], ca. 1539.

Pedro Ciruelo studied in the Colegio de San Idelfonso in Alcalá (by 1510) and then in Salamanca. He received his doctoral degree from Paris. He wrote treatises on logic, mathematics, philosophy, religion and popular beliefs. His work on display here, the Reprobación de las supersticiones ("Condemnation of superstitions") is sometimes confused with a witchcraft manual. It is in fact a religious treatise against magic and the divinatory arts.
