Rodrigo de Valdes. Poema Heroyco. Madrid: Antonio Roman, 1687. Valdes was a Peruvian Jesuit and poet, famous as scholar and a preacher. He worked for the Inquisition in Lima. Late in his life, probably suffering from mental disorders, Valdes destroyed his original manuscripts. Posthumously, his nephew Garavito de Leon published his Poema, which is a "rhymed chronicle" relating historical events in verse. Note that the text also contains a marginal commentary. |
