Hieronymus Osorius. De Regis Institutione et Disciplina. Coloniae: In officina Birckmannica, 1582. Osorio, a Portuguese writer, studied in Salamanca, Paris and Bologna and was a professor at the University of Coimbra. He was an outstanding scholar in Greek and the Scriptures, as well as in philosophy and law. In this work he writes on the Christian responsibilities of the monarch. After the death of the Portuguese king Sebastian, Osorio moved to Rome, where he was highly esteemed by pope Gregorius XIII. Osorio's work, written in Latin, was translated into Portuguese, French and English. |
